Farsley AFC ended their disastrous season with a competitive draw with Bamber Bridge after Gareth Grant’s late equaliser ended a run of seven straight Evo Stik Division One North defeats.
The stalemate confirms Farsley’s finish of 14th in the table – a complete disappointment considering the Villagers’ pre-season hopes of winning promotion.
After conceding in the first minute during Monday’s 3-0 loss New Mills, Farsley did the same again against Bridge. Lennie Reid was allowed time on the ball on the edge of the box and his low shot beat goalkeeper Tom Morgan.
Some probably thought the roof would cave in again. But, in fairness to Neil Parsley’s men, Farsley regrouped and refused to succumb to another heavy beating. Winger Ryan Harrison did go close twice with long range attempts that flew just over the crossbar.
Farsley did get lucky when Greg Johnstone blazed over from close range before Farsley’s Sam Robinson forced a fantastic save from goalkeeper Lee Dovey.
The equaliser should have arrived on 34 minutes. Leading goalscorer Adam Priestley broke through on goal, but with Dovey approaching, the striker fired just wide – wasting a glorious chance.
The second half failed to match the first as few chances were forthcoming. It looked like the season would close with yet another defeat for Farsley. However, with 14 minutes left on the clock, Grant saved the day.
Grant, with the ball at his feet inside the box, managed to beat Dovey from a tight angle – ending the team's goal drought of four games.
And then Farsley nearly won the game in added time. Priestley’s tame effort was parried and Simeon Bambrook smashed home the rebound. Unfortunately for Farsley, Bambrook was deemed offside.
