Scarborough Athletic 0-2 Hull City Development Squad

Scarborough Athletic manager Rudy Funk wanted to draw on the good points rather than goalkeeper Jason White’s second half blunder at Queensgate.
A goal on 17 minutes from lively forward Calaum Jahraldo-Martin put the Tigers ahead and then with a quarter of an hour left, defender Andrew Milne scored an own goal.
Milne’s seemingly harmless back-pass took a bobble and White completely missed the ball and it trickled into the net.

When asked on whether he needed to lift the spirits of shot stopper White, who recently signed for Scarborough from Gainsborough Trinity, Funk told SportsPerformer: “No, it was just a genuine error. The first goal he couldn’t do anything about, but the second goal, you could call it a howler, we just laughed.
“At the end of the day, you have to take the positives. There were so many good players out there today and we showed some good touches.
““It was a great workout for both sides. Speaking to (Hull City coach) Stevie Clemence afterwards, he complimented us about the way we approached the game and how we played the game.
“Of course it is not about the result, we’re looking at personnel.
“We’ve played one or two people out of position and we’re just getting ready for the 17th August and that is what it is all about.”

NCEL Premier Division champions Scarborough are set to learn the identity of their first Evo Stik Division One South first day opponents this week. But, back to today against Hull and Funk had a couple of his new faces available having had players missing due to holidays at FC Halifax Town last week.
Former Hull man Bryan Hughes was back and captained the side in place of Tony Hackworth.
Commanding centre-back Paul Foot, who skippered North Ferriby United to their historic treble in May, made his debut. Fellow defender Sam Denton made an appearance as a second half substitute, as did winger Henry Sibenge.
The game itself wasn’t a spectacle. As Funk said, fitness and organisation were the priorities and his side played well at times.
Hull’s goal was against the run of play. Jahraldo-Martin found space down the middle of the park and he kept his composure to place the ball underneath the onrushing White.
Scarborough’s response was a thunderous effort from prolific hit-man Gary Bradshaw whose long range strike had to br palmed away by Tigers goalkeeper Joe Cracknell.
Hughes then went close with a free kick.

Changes were made in the second half which affected the game. Scarborough caused problems for the Hull defence without really troubling the goalkeeper.
Hull didn’t look like scoring either until they received a fortunate bit of luck. Milne, who was one of Farsley AFC manager Neil Parsley’s top targets during the summer, became the undeserving scorer of an own goal as White misjudged his back-pass.
Scarborough will play away at AFC Mansfield on Tuesday night.
